Build a shed foundation after construction

Question
I have a shed which was built on blocks sitting on the ground. It has begun to sink making it impossible to open one of the doors. The ground is soft and I need to find a way to construct a solid foundation and level it without moving the shed. What would be the best way to do that?

Answer
Hi, thanks for visiting
Depending on the size and age of your shed, this type of fix can be costly that it can cost less to build a new shed with better footings than to do the repair.

The quickest fix and least expensive is to increase the height of the door opening and move the door upward or cut a few inches from the bottom of the door. This will buy you a few years.

The other option is use a few car jacks and lift the sinking side to level. Hold it in place for a few days while you dig and pour footings. This is a lot of work and can be very dangerous since your soil is soft. To go this route you need to make sure you have a lot of temporary bracing to assure the safety of those that dig and pour the footings.

There are companies that specialized in bumping pressurized cement into sinking foundation and bring them to level that's an option but the cost is a major factor in your decision.

Good luck
